What we did
For European Sustainable Development Week, CY Cergy Paris University asked Cortex to give a participatory talk on the mechanisms of disinformation and on the cognitive biases that shape our perception of scientific truth.
The aim was to give the audience practical tools for checking and understanding information, through examples drawn from health, climate and politics. The format alternated group discussion, a “Fact or fake?” quiz and analysis of real cases, so that participants could try out fact-checking reflexes for themselves and learn to decode misleading images and headlines.
Misinformation, disinformation, confirmation bias, the illusory truth effect, echo chambers: these notions were covered in a clear and accessible way, each time showing the possible levers for action, from citizen fact-checking to science outreach. Designed as a media literacy workshop, the session opened a dialogue between researchers, students and the general public on our collective responsibility in the face of the spread of false information.
