Davide Faranda
CNRS research director in climate science at the LSCE laboratory of the Pierre Simon Laplace Institute and Paris-Saclay
Davide Faranda is a Research Director at the CNRS in climate physics at the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE). His research focuses on understanding and attributing extreme weather events to climate change, particularly heat waves, extreme precipitation, cyclones, and convective phenomena. He develops approaches that combine system dynamics, extreme value theory, and machine learning. He is the founder and coordinator of ClimaMeter, an international scientific initiative dedicated to the rapid analysis of extreme weather events and their evolution in a warming climate. Since 2025, he has served as Lead Author of the chapter on regional climate change and extreme events in the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), and he is President-elect of the Nonlinear Processes Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). He is the author of more than 150 scientific articles and has been cited more than 4,600 times. He is also a research associate at the London Mathematical Laboratory and the Laboratory of Dynamic Meteorology at the École Normale Supérieure.
