Philippe Drobinski
CNRS Research Director Director of the Energy4Climate Center Laboratory of Dynamic Meteorology Lead author for the IPCC
Philippe Drobinski is a CNRS Research Director and Professor at École Polytechnique. His research focuses on the evolution of the Euro-Mediterranean climate, particularly in relation to the water cycle and energy resources. Between 2016 and 2024, he served as Director of the Dynamic Meteorology Laboratory. In 2019, he founded the interdisciplinary Energy4Climate centre, which he has directed ever since. This research centre aims to address the systemic complexity of the energy transition in connection with climate challenges. He is the author of more than 200 book chapters and scientific articles. Within the MedECC (often referred to as the “Mediterranean IPCC”), he served as Lead Author of the chapter on energy transition in the First Assessment Report on Climate and Environmental Change in the Mediterranean Basin, and coordinated a Special Report on the water–energy–food–ecosystems nexus. Since 2025, he has coordinated the Second MedECC Assessment Report and serves as a Lead Author for the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report. At École Polytechnique, he teaches both undergraduate and professional education courses on climate change and the energy transition. He is also the author of the book Weather...
