Yves Tramblay

Research Director at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) Hydrologist – Espace-Dev Laboratory

Yves Tramblay is a research director at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) and a hydrologist at the Espace-Dev laboratory in Montpellier. His research focuses on the impacts of climate change on the water cycle, with a particular interest in extreme hydrological events: floods, droughts, and heavy rainfall. His work aims, in particular, to understand how these phenomena are changing as a result of global warming and to develop methods for predicting their future evolution. He focuses primarily on France, the Mediterranean region, Africa, and France’s overseas territories, combining observations, hydrological modeling, and climate projections. He coordinates or participates in several national and international research projects focused on the impacts of climate change on water resources and hydrological risks. In particular, he coordinated the work on extreme hydrological events for the national EXPLORE2 project and is currently contributing to its expansion to the overseas territories. The author of more than 130 scientific articles, Yves Tramblay is also a contributing author to the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), specifically the chapter on the Mediterranean, as well as the first MedECC report. He regularly participates in conferences, training sessions, and public and media appearances to make scientific knowledge on climate change, water, and hydrological risks accessible to the general public.
